Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues

Oh, wow, I didn't realize so many days had gone by! Let's see...

Saturday: I think I recycled a post-it, and I definitely recycled a box and some instructions that came in it. I also gave away a coupon for cat food - left it in the lobby.

Sunday: I don't remember what I decluttered. I spent the day looking at my clogged sinks and wishing the hardware store were open on Sundays so I could get a plunger. I probably recycled some paper or something.

Monday: I recycled two paper bags (after hauling groceries home in them), a box, a newspaper, and a sale postcard. I worked so the sink remained clogged. I did get groceries and cat food, so at least my cat was happy.

Today: Woof. I got so much done today! Finally got to the hardware store and got a plunger. Cost of plunger: $6.51. Having clear drains: Priceless. On the way I did laundry and went to the library for a book I had on hold, and state tax forms. After clearing the drains, I made a bunch of phone calls, using up my month's cell phone minutes and getting into the rollover. This is a declutter, because I want to switch to prepaid and have only three days left to use thousands of rollover minutes. I took out the trash and some dead flowers, went to the gym, returned the Turbo Snake I had bought on Sunday (it didn't work), and bought filters for my water pitcher. Then I made another phone call to get a discount on a product I wanted, and bought that. Finally, I cleaned up some cat barf and did most of the dishes. I am exhausted, but in a good way :)

Results: I started working at my new job yesterday! I already love it. Had a call this morning (before any of this other stuff) about another job, and I am going to meet the guy tomorrow after my other work. I got a package of three water pitcher filters free cuz I had a buy one, get one free coupon and the price was just low enough! It pays to call companies when there is a problem, people - I saved $20! And I got a BUNCH of sales on food at the grocery store yesterday, plus used coupons! Finally, I figured out that it is cheaper to pay interest and penalties on my taxes than to put them on my credit card, so I'm doing that!

My kitty is being the cuddliest boo-boo ever, and I'm just generally feeling good. It's a good day!

Friday

On Friday I recycled 15 plastic bags, a box, and a post-it.

Results: OMG. I was contacted by a FOURTH person in regard to work! Calling them to discuss next Tuesday!

Thursday

Today I paid two bills and recycled the envelopes and inserts. Also recycled mail from a company I have to return a product to and another envelope.

Results: Got two more calls about work today! Also got a coupon for $10 at Penney's, for a minimum $10 purchase. So basically, if I go there and find something for $10, I get it free! Well, plus tax if it's not clothing.

Tuesday/Wednesday

Tuesday additional declutter: I recycled a letter from the Census Bureau reminding me to send in my census form. I did that last week so...bye-bye.

Today's declutter: I recycled a sale flyer after calling the store to get my name off the mailing list.

Results: What a great day :) I met with the owner of the green energy company and am starting next week! We had a great conversation about what the company does and my interest in solar power - including my project - and curbing global warming. I am going to like working there, and I'll like having more income again too! Then I went to the health food store and had a fun conversation with a girl who was demo-ing some products. She told me about a couple of good companies and I got her email so we could stay in touch. Then I got some stuff I needed for a health problem and went home. I took some of the stuff and am already feeling much improved!

On top of all that, it was sunny and breezy and just a really pretty day today!

Monday/Tuesday

I worked upstate on Monday so I didn't declutter. On Tuesday, I recycled a piece of paper, three strips off one of those tear-off-the-strips pieces of mail, and a paper from an ice cream cone I ate last week (it was in my purse).

Results: I worked and made money, I have a role in another opera, and tomorrow I am meeting with the guy who needs a bookkeeper! AND, best part, the job is at a green energy company, which is something I'm EXTREMELY interested in! In fact, I attempted to do a project with solar panels last year, that I got stuck on, so a job in a place like this could resurrect it! Whee!

First Weekend of Spring!

Saturday's declutter: I recycled 3 envelopes, 1 newspaper, 1 flyer, 2 receipts, 2 post-its, and 1 piece of paper, and I took a couple of coupons down to the lobby. I also updated my Quicken file for the morning visit to the farmers' market - gotta keep that cash record current or it's forgotten!

This week I've also recycled a few glass and plastic bottles, from cooking herbs that I used up. I think I got one bottle from my mom when my family moved to Illinois 23 years ago. If not, then I bought it before I switched to organic, so at least 10 years ago. I guess Italian herbs don't go bad, cuz they still had plenty of flavor!

Sunday's declutter: I recycled a brochure and price list, and filed some papers.

Results: On Friday I heard back from the guy who needs a bookkeeper! I also received a coupon I'd been expecting, and a refund from the MTA for a train fare that was double-charged! On Saturday I got a check I'd been expecting :)

Friday, March 19, 2010

Friday

Today's declutter: I did Quicken entries for February and March, and some 2009 cash receipts, and in the process recycled 18 receipts, 9 post-its, 5 papers, 4 envelopes, and 3 expired coupons. I also filed a bunch of 2008 deductible receipts in my tax file.

Thursday

Another great day! It's amazing how the sun can make everything feel good :) It's been in the high 60s today and mild as can be, that perfect, just-spring weather!

Today's declutter: I recycled five envelopes from mail I received. And I've been singing made-up songs to myself for several days about things that feel good to me: it's a way of getting my mind off of negative thoughts and beliefs.

Results: I get a bigger paycheck next week cuz I had more hours at work the past two weeks. And I am going to work for my friend upstate on Monday, so that's additional income. AND today I got my second rent check from the tenant who's always super late, so lots of late fees! I feel very rich at the moment :)

St. Patrick's Day

What a wonderful day I've had! It was sunny and warm, I had a great day at work, I got much-needed groceries, and I got to see my sweetie for awhile! I woke up from fun dreams and have been in a great mood all day long. :)

Today's declutter: I shredded two and a half folders' worth of papers having to do mostly with my car, which I donated away in 2007. Those papers that didn't have to do with that car had to do with previous cars I owned and sold loooonnnnnggggg ago. I didn't finish the job cuz it was so much paper I didn't want to continue disrupting the office. Will do next week or take upstate when I work for my friend up there in a couple days.

Ahhh! I feel so good today. Hurray!

Tuesday Morning

Got an early start on decluttering today by paying bills! I paid three and recycled the envelopes and inserts. I also cut a couple more credit card pieces - found two really old debit cards last night - and threw them away.

The taxes will not fit in a single box - it would be too heavy. So I'm leaving the oldest ones in the box they were in, put the next two together, and am putting the more recent ones in a third box which may still have room when I'm done.

It's a sunny day and I feel good. I think this means more decluttering is in the works for today! At any rate I am going to put an ad on craigslist to sell miscellaneous junk. I've seen people do this for months and it seems as good an idea as any. You never know what people are looking for, and it's free, which beats the crapshoot of eBay.

Monday Again

I found the taxes, woohoo! Now I'm going to put them all in ONE BOX!

And I recycled another newspaper. :)

And I forgot to say that on Friday I cut some more pieces off six or seven credit cards and an old driver's license and threw them away!

Sunday/Monday

Sunday was a non-declutter day. I can't think of a single thing I got rid of. Maybe some phone numbers on my new-to-me cell phone, but I think I actually did that on Friday or Saturday.

Today I got fed-up with the mess sometime after 6pm but before 7:30pm. I started looking for the taxes again. Found a bunch of stuff to pitch instead. I recycled 10 newspapers, 9 pieces of paper, 3 envelopes, 2 brochures, 1 piece of mail, 3 inserts, and another calendar. I threw away a bubble wrap sandwich bag type of thing, and a plastic envelope. And I made the bed, put away a coat, put two bags of yarn into the bedroom, moved a stack of stuff I want to sell off the couch and into a stack by the table, and filed a bunch of papers. Then I wrapped a bunch of change to deposit to my bank account. I'm going to put away a bunch of clothes at the next commercial break (watching House).

Results: Today I spoke with the woman who gave me a job referral a couple weeks back, to ask if she thought I should call the guy again as I haven't heard from him although I left a message. She said she'd be meeting with him next Monday, and she knows he hasn't hired anyone else yet. She suggested emailing him to check in, but seemed pretty positive that I'd be hearing from him soon. AND, she just gave my resume to someone else too! Yay!

Saturday and DST

Somehow I missed the fact that Daylight Saving Time was moved to the second weekend in March in 2007. It's got me all discombobulated this year. Used to be the beginning or end of the month, and the mid-month thing just has me going ?????

Anyhow. After Friday's massive declutter, I of course did very little decluttering Saturday. I returned a book to the lobby after reading it, which doesn't really count since I got it from there in the first place. But I did recycle an Irish coffee glass (part of a set of four that is sadly reduced to three now) that was cracked. I was hanging on to it in order to use it in something crafty, much like the china plate pieces that I was someday going to use to decorate plaster picture frames. I finally realized this was never going to happen, and I can't offer this glass to a guest because it will leak and I never have guests or make Irish coffee anyway, so what the heck was I doing with this thing? So it's gone.

Last night I listened to a REALLY great show online called The Aware Show. The host, Lisa Garr, is currently running a series of interviews with various coaches/mentors/experts, on reclaiming one's power. I got turned on to it by Alison Armstrong of PAX, the company which does wonderful workshops for women on understanding men. After listening to Alison's interview, I was so impressed I wanted to share the series with you all. You can find it by clicking this link:

It's free to attend. BTW, if you're a woman who would like to get along better with the men in your life, here's a link to PAX's site:

Making Sense of Men

Results: I keep waking up to kitty cuddles this week :) This morning the kitty was lying in the crook of my elbow, purring away. What a nice way to wake up!

More Friday

I forgot to say earlier that when looking for my taxes I found a hard drive that I have been looking for since probably 2008. I KNEW I didn't throw it out!

Additional decluttering: I just cleared out a bunch of papers that I'd put away when my mom came to visit last summer. I had three peach baskets, so I used them to hide my clutter on top of the kitchen cabinets for her visit. I recycled 27 pieces of paper, 5 booklets/brochures, a calendar, 4 post-its, 4 unopened pieces of mail - yes, mail from 2009 - a plastic piece from a spice bottle, and one paper clip. I also threw away a bobby pin and a twist-tie. I now have only ONE peach basket left that has stuff in it. While going through this pile, I found a missing measuring spoon I've been looking for, and a $20 movie gift card that I knew was in one of the baskets!

Friday

Hey, last night I got rid of a few more papers but I don't remember exactly what...

Today's declutter: First, I found that Gevalia offer from 2006 and recycled it. I had already decided to finish up 2009 on Quicken so I could figure out my taxes. So I did that for two or three hours and got a ballpark for the Fed tax number. Now I have to get forms and instructions for the state taxes cuz they aren't sending those to us anymore. They'll send unneeded duplicate payroll forms every year to businesses that use ADP or Paychex, and there's no way to request that they stop, but they won't send individual tax forms anymore. Gotta love the crazy inconsistency of state government. At least it gives you a great idea of how NOT to run things!

Anyway. Once I got that done I started looking for my 2006 tax return so I could make sure I have the correct depreciation on my rental property. And I can't find the Fed return. I have the state return and both Fed and state instructions, but the Fed return is not with them. Sigh. So I started ransacking boxes for the second time this week looking for tax returns - earlier this week I was searching for 2004. I found boxes I hadn't noticed before, so I dug in. Found 2004! And in the process I found a bunch of stuff to shred and recycle. I recycled 15 old annual company reports from stock I once owned, 5 post-its, 6 business cards, and 2 random pieces of paper. And I have three files worth of stuff to shred at work next week.

I also found my complete work history, so now I can apply to Whole Foods again with actual dates, if I want.

I am spending the rest of the night and probably the weekend going through these boxes to get rid of junk I don't need, and then storing the taxes and other old files with proper labeling on the boxes so I can find stuff at a glance. Well, that's the plan anyway. My energy may fail me tomorrow, I don't know. I had some of the new coffee today, and lemme tell ya, I was perky! It's organic Peruvian coffee. Pretty good stuff!

Results: I made $55 today on a trade I initiated Tuesday :) And I got another call about a job! One of these jobs will be the right one!

Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday

Argh. Not keeping up with this blog or decluttering.

Tuesday's declutter: I paid a bill and recycled the envelope and inserts. And I recycled a box.

Wednesday's declutter: Shredded two papers and recycled a box, a post-it, and a piece of paper.

Thursday's declutter: Recycled: A postcard, three envelopes and inserts from bills I paid, today's mail (a postcard), eight flyers/ads that came with my NEW GEVALIA COFFEEMAKER, and three plastic bags and a couple of pieces of cardboard that came with said coffeemaker.

Huh. I guess I AM decluttering!

Results: Got a call about a job yesterday! I was at work so had to call back, and left a message. Waiting for them to get back to me. Got my coffeemaker and coffee today - $10 for a coffeemaker, go cup, and a pound of coffee! And I don't have to buy anything else if I don't want to. I don't know why I hesitated to do this years ago. This also declutters the Gevalia promo I was keeping from 2006!

Monday

On Monday I opened some mail and recycled two envelopes and those little tear-off strips from those "Tear off side strips first" envelopes.

Friday/Saturday/Sunday

I don't think I did any decluttering over the weekend. At any rate, I don't remember it. Maybe recycled a newspaper or a couple of coffee cups. Hey, I was in a show, I had parties to go to :)

Thursday, Take Two

Additional decluttering: I recycled a catalog after calling to get removed from the mailing list. I also took those flowers out to the vacant lot. Finally, I paid three bills and recycled the envelopes and inserts.

Thursday

Today I recycled a post-it. Haha! I am going to throw out some dead flowers too - I toss them in the vacant lot next door as compost. I'm thinking about asking the owner of the lot if I can grow a garden in it, since he's not doing anything with it. It would have to be flowers at first, because of the rat poison that has been used in it. No organic veggies possible there for three years! But flowers would be amazing for our neighborhood, and so fun for me.

Results: I made $65 on a trade today! That is five profitable trades in a row, and puts me over $100 for the week! It would have been more if I'd gotten out higher up, but I was following the technicals and had set myself a stop that would allow some pullbacks while it was going up. So I got out when it went down below that point and stayed there. Very happy!

Wednesday

Multiple declutter today! I'm actually pretty pleased with myself. I decided I'd go to the grocery store in my neighborhood after work today, so I took a paper bag (bag refund) filled with: Plastic bags to recycle, a bag of ink cartridges to take to Staples, which is next door, for a rewards credit, and my stuff to shred. And this time, I remembered to shred!

So! Today's Declutter: Shredded 9 pieces of sensitive info, recycled 3 ink cartridges ($9 to spend at Staples, not bad!), and recycled 15 plastic bags. I also recycled an envelope after I got home.

I also remembered to fax something from work that I kept forgetting to do while I was there! And I mailed a bill payment.

Results: I made $30 on a trade today! That's four in a row that have been profitable. I'm up almost $100. Yeah, they are small profits, but a profit is a profit! Not to mention the fact that I wouldn't earn $100 on this money in a year in a bank, and trading I made it in two weeks. :)

Tuesday Again

I forgot to mention that I put an ad on craigslist today to sell one of the many money-making programs I've bought that I didn't make money with. Will do more in the near future.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Monday/Tuesday

Monday: I started looking through old stuff in my to do file, and ended up tossing three pieces of paper and 4 post-its. I also recycled a box.

Tuesday: I filed a couple papers that I found in the old stuff in the to do file, and recycled three pieces of mail and two envelopes. Also paid a bill and returned three library books.

Results: I got called about a job today! This is through an agency I have been employed by in the past. I go to meet the company owner Friday and hopefully will start next week. It's very part-time but for right now there might be more hours cuz catch-up work needs to be done. And the pay is decent, even if it's not what I usually make. If they hire me, though, chances are good I'll get paid more. That's putting the cart before the horse - let's see if they like me first! I checked out their website and think it would be an interesting place to work. It's coming at the perfect time - that's usually what happens to me :)

Monday, March 1, 2010

Sunday, February 28

How time flies!

Saturday addendum: I recycled a couple of paper bags I've been using to haul stuff to the theater for my opera. They were getting pretty wet with all the back and forth on the subway. People stepping in snow makes the floors wet. Then some food I bought leaked into the bottom, so they had to go.

Sunday: I don't think I decluttered anything. Recycled a bunch of yogurt cups and other containers, but I do that all the time and don't really count it. Wait, yes I did declutter, I cut all the dead narcissus flowers off these bulbs I bought!

Results: First weekend of performance went well! One more weekend to go. And my health is holding steady. Those herbs are doing the trick. I had a cough start over the weekend but it is gone again. So I'm getting back into the gym March 1!
