This Week in Decluttering

Let's see if I can remember what I got rid of this week. Some of the stuff might be on the wrong days - it's more accurate toward the end of the week :)

Monday: I recycled a bread bag.

Tuesday: I don't think I did any decluttering today.

Wednesday: I recycled a shopping list.

Thursday: I recycled a plastic egg carton and its paper label, three envelopes, a couple of mail inserts, and a pill bottle.

Friday: I paid three bills and recycled the envelopes and inserts. I also recycled a newspaper and a pill bottle and threw away some dead flowers.

Results: Got the job I've been waiting to hear about! That's it for me, I'm full up! I also had a lovely day with my guy Tuesday. I was perfectly happy :) Finally, today is my birthday and I got birthday cake at work Wednesday and am getting lots of birthday greetings on Facebook today!

Sunday Addendum

I forgot that I recycled a postcard Sunday.

Friday - Sunday

I forgot that on Thursday I threw away a pair of knee-highs that was getting hole-y.

Friday: I didn't declutter anything that I can remember.

Saturday: I finally put the boxes back in the closet - after rearranging them a bit. I was waiting to see if I had to return my $70 computer, which seems to be not working so well. But then I thought, I can just put what I want into the computer box, and if I have to return it, I can take the stuff out for a day or two till I get the box back home.

So as I rearranged the boxes, I recycled two magazines, five brochures, four business cards, five post-its, two envelopes, two pieces of mail, and four pieces of paper. I also put my two heavy winter coats away and put the fans back in the closet. Finally, I took out the recycling - all of it! - and did half the dishes (all there was room for).

Sunday: I decluttered some wilting veggies. I got most of the other dishes done, and got the garbage ready to take out tomorrow on my way to work. And I packaged up a bunch of meat for the freezer. Other than that it was a very lazy day :)

Results: I got paid Friday and got my rent check yesterday!

Wednesday/Thursday

On Wednesday I recycled four newspapers and some other paper stuff...yeah, I know it's vague :) I just can't remember. I was cleaning up a bit after re-doing my taxes, cuz...I discovered I was going to overpay!

Thursday: No recycling/decluttering. I got up at 6:30 to make sure I was at the PO by 8:00 so I could get the taxes mailed and get to work on time.

Results: I started a new job today! It is another cleanup operation - I can't believe how many people out there are pretending to be bookkeepers. Seriously.

Yesterday I got out of a trade that had gone very very wrong. Never do what I did, people: I thought, oh, the stock is dropping a bit but I've got three weeks before the option expires, it'll come back before then. Baaaa. Wrong answer, thanks for playin'. I learned an expensive lesson. The option lost about as much value as it could without being completely worthless. It had some news that made the price drop and the volume was super low. And then yesterday, because of bad news for another company in the same sector (OK, it was Toyota - I was in a Ford option), my stock went back up, as did my option. I had considered doubling down (and actually more than doubling) when it was super-low, but I didn't. If I had I'd have made most of my money back. As it was, I got out at a price I felt was decent. Lost a lot, but not as much as it had been. :) Then today I saw that the price went up even more, so in the end, I was right about it coming back up by the end of the three weeks. BUT, knowing that options lose value right before expiring, I didn't think it was safe to stay in another day. If I had I would definitely have most of my money back.

So it was an expensive lesson, but I'm not completely out of the game. NEVER AGAIN will I not put in a stop-loss. You've got to get out when it goes against you. I was stuck in that thing for three weeks because I was being stubborn. And then I ended up getting out too soon, lol! I could have done four or five trades that would have been profitable in the time I held this option and lost money on it. So, if you ever trade, learn from my mistake: Know where to get out if it goes against you!

Sunday - Tuesday

Sunday results: I didn't mention that I made a new friend on the train Sunday, another musician who saw me studying the music I learned for my audition! That was cool. Maybe we'll do a project together!

Monday: I recycled an expired coupon and expired rain check. Kind of a drag when rain checks expire because the store never has the product, which I think is what happened. Also I didn't happen to go to that location before it expired, due to budgeting my subway fares.

Tuesday: I got some decluttering done today. I did some filing and recycled a program from a show I was in, a sale flyer full of expired coupons - come to think of it, I might have been saving that for a recipe, better check - a post-it, a price list, and a couple of envelopes and inserts. I also put away/folded a bunch of clothes, swept the catbox area and some cat food in the kitchen, and did the dishes and cleaned up the stove and counter. My boyfriend was here trying to fix my cheap PC, which may have been cheap cuz it's about to die, and I was trying not to interrupt him, so I resorted to cleaning things up! It was really weird - I didn't want to ignore him, but I knew he was busy! I had to do something or I'd just be hovering.

Results: Well, my audition wasn't too bad. I got struck with sudden allergy symptoms today (of COURSE, lol), so I couldn't get the song to sound quite up to it at home, but I figured I'd just do my best and let the acting make the difference, and it did. I got a couple laughs! It was a good experience. I tried to have fun, and I think it came across. If I get to do the cover, that's great, if I don't, I'll definitely ask what I could have done better.

Thursday - Sunday

First an addition to Tuesday: I recycled pages of staging from the last opera I was in, and an application for some program I'm not eligible for.

Thursday: I paid three bills and recycled the envelopes and inserts. And I took an overdue book back to the library.

Friday: I worked! So don't remember the declutter - probably recycled a newspaper or something. I did take out the garbage and some of the recycling though.

Saturday: I paid another bill and recycled the envelope. Also finalized my taxes. I am going to pay a little now and pay the balance off in the next four months, which is cheaper than putting them on credit cards. BTW, did you know that you can deduct the fees for those credit card tax payments, if you itemize? I just found it out as I was doing this yesterday!

Today: I have not decluttered anything today.

Results: I no sooner decided I didn't have time for a two-day-a-week job when I got called on a one-day-a-week job! And next week I'm going back in to the job I worked Friday! It looks very much like I will have money at the end of my month, for the first time in awhile! This is a good feeling after so much time of minimal employment - I enjoyed the time off but it will be good to be able to pay down some bills and do a little saving.

Today I went to a friend's recital and was just so pleased with the songs she sang - it took me back to my college days when I was required to attend concerts and write reports as part of my voice class. She has a lovely voice and did well with the songs she chose. I have sung one of them myself but the others were all new to me. I loved her French set so much I want to learn the songs - French art songs are sort of my thing. They suit my voice and my personality very well and I have thought often about doing a recital of them for my friends. I'm thinking about it again now :)

OH! I also get to audition to cover the role I coveted in my next opera! This is good because if I don't get it, I'll know that I wasn't the best and I'll have someone to give me feedback on what to work on. I found out Friday and have spent the last couple days learning the song - I already knew parts of it, but I am kind of impressed that I'm learning it in four days (the audition is Tuesday). If I can also make it sound good in that time, I'll really be impressed - with my TRAINING, haha!

Finally, when I got home from the recital today I discovered the chicken I had just bought was going bad - this despite my numerous complaints to the store about their expiration windows being far too long. So I called the store team leader (that's the equivalent of a manager) and told him about it, and he not only promised some action on it but also said in addition to my refund he would give me a gift card! I'm tellin' ya, it pays to voice your opinions about things!

Tuesday/Wednesday

OK, getting back into the declutter swing of things! After I posted Monday's post (redundant much?), I paid two more bills and recycled the envelopes and inserts. And I think I recycled another catalog. That might have been Tuesday.

Tuesday's declutter: I got my new contact lenses, so the old ones went in the trash. I also recycled a contact case that had a crack in it. Too bad cuz I really liked it.

Wednesday: I FINALLY took the last half-folder of my old car files to work, and shredded the contents. It was a few insurance bills. Also shredded a couple other pieces of sensitive paper.

Results: I brought my computer, etc., home last night! I have just set it up and am typing this post from it. Very excited cuz now I have a nice fast processor for my trading program! On the Mac it would get hung up while the computer would think for three or four minutes at a time - usually right when I was trying to get into a trade! Macs are great, but they are SLOOOWWWW.

Best news of the week: My little sister had her custody hearing yesterday, and was finally awarded joint custody of her son! She only saw him one day in the past month, so this is a HUGE big deal!

Happy April! And Another Week Gone...

Wow. I worked every day but Tuesday last week, and decluttering went out the window cuz I was so tired when I got home. I managed to do dishes over the weekend and take out half the recycling, and today I changed the cat litter and cleaned out the gunk from my keyboard (it was full of lint and stuff). I also paid a bill today and recycled the envelope and inserts.

Other than that, I recycled a catalog yesterday, and I think that was it for the week. But oh, boy, did things happen...

Results: Last week I made a ton of money with all the work I did, and I scored a PC, with monitor and mouse, for $70! Programs installed and everything, all I need to do is haul it home. Which I'm doing tomorrow! I then went to Penney's with a coupon for $10 off any purchase of $10 or more, thinking maybe I'd find some decent shoes or jeans. I found a very comfy, well-made pair of leather shoes that will work for work clothes and jeans, that were 50% off. Penney's was having a further sale of 9% off EVERYTHING, and then I had my coupon. I got this $70 pair of shoes for $21.84!

Today I found out that Gevalia refunded my $10 by mistake because they had me down as having returned their shipment. I didn't return it, but the guy said it was no problem and he wouldn't charge me again! So the $10 coffee maker and coffee are now FREE! WHAT?! Is that not the coolest thing?

Last result: I got a new perspective on an old issue from an FB post by someone I subsequently friended and thanked. This woman said something so simple, that shifted my beliefs about having what I want. It was COOOLLLLL! IS cool! I now believe I am going to have what I want - Yippee!
