What This Blog is For

I just want to shout out and say that this blog is for everyone who has an issue with clutter and wants support. It's a place to share your progress, too.

It's also for anyone who has CONQUERED clutter to share how they did it. We packrats will love your tips!

No matter how much clutter you have, one piece of junk out the door daily is progress. If you can commit to that, you are on your way to a clutter-free life!

  1. Two years ago I invested in a 30 yard container to clear out my father's accumulation of 50 years in the basement and the garage. It took me 7 years after he had passed to get to this point. One immediate benefit appeared. My father had a habit of hiding money among his tools etc. in the basement. I forgot to mention this to my friend Ron and his brother-in-law. The thought was no sooner complete in my head when ron called upstairs to me that he had found "something". The monetary haul for the day was about $2000 cash, which paid for the container ($400), the hired help and an nice little investment.
When the garage was cleared out I ended up using the space for my boxed books, papers, and some fabric and notions I had planned to use to start a cloth doll business. A few weeks ago my eye caught an article in a newspaper at the library. The website "Wish Upon a Hero" led me to a woman who is disabled at home and bored looking for fabric, notions, patterns. She accepted my offer to drive it over to her - I'm near NYC while she's across state near Philadelphia. Something led me up to the attic and lo and behold I felt like an infomercial thinking, "But wait -- there's more!" Total donation= 5 boxes out of my house.
Next up: shoes and clothes for Goodwill.

  2. It gets to the point sometimes where I look around for clutter to get rid of (I LOVE de-cluttering!), and get bummed when there's nothing left. Then I inevitably take a harder look and find things I had missed before when I was throwing out the REAL junk. It just never ends. There have been times in my life where my rooms are nearly empty because I have thrown out tons of stuff I just didn't need.

I remember, when we moved from Oregon when I was a teenager, each kid was given two Xerox paper boxes, and that was what we got to pack our belongings in. Including clothes. We had to fit everything we owned into two copy paper boxes. Amazingly, it wasn't hard for me! Sort of wish it was still that way.

Very cool that you found all that money! I have occasionally found money in my jacket pockets but nothing like that! You just never know what can happen when you declutter.

I'll be checking out the website you mentioned also - may be a good place to take some of my clutter. Thanks!
